Board Development and Training

As the stewards of an organisation, the governing Board is responsible for ensuring that the mission is fulfilled. However, in order to fulfill any mission, money is required. All too often, Board members are recruited without being given the tools they need to fulfill their responsibility.

One of the Board's primary roles, other than overall governance, is fundraising. Having worked with thousands of volunteer leaders across the country, DVA Navion's experience shows that the most effective Board Members are those who are comfortable with their fundraising role. While this "comfort level" can come from experience, it is much more effective to provide Board members with the orientation and training that will make it easier for them to be successful throughout their tenure on the Board.

DVA Navion offers generic or customized seminars and workshops, as well as individual training sessions for Boards and Board members in a number of different areas:

  • Fundraising 101® general fundraising theory and fundamentals
  • Solicitation techniques - making the "ask"
  • Prospect screening/rating facilitation
  • Hands-on, role play sessions on major gift solicitation
  • Multimedia presentation strategies
  • Specific campaign training sessions
  • Annual giving
  • Major gifts
  • Capital campaigns
  • Planned giving
  • Cultivation and stewardship of major donors

We are also equipped to work with you on the development of customized manuals and other training/orientation aids to assist you with all aspects of Board training.

Serving as a member of a governing Board is a very serious responsibility. Our goal is to help your Board Education and Development members understand all aspects of their role and to provide the tools and training necessary to ensure their success.
